Amy Winehouse – Lioness: Hidden Treasures

Songs by The late great Amy Winehouse are to be released on a “new” album entitled Lioness: Hidden Treasures. The album contains A handful of recent songs which have been padded out with cover versions, alternate takes and unreleased songs stretching back to 2002. The Album will feature 12 tracks, including a substantial amount of new material. One song, Between the Cheats, reportedly tells of cheating ex-husband Blake Fielder Civil while another was apparently recorded while the singer was high on drugs and on another Amy bursts into tears.

The album is described as ‘faithful to her legacy’, and will be released on December 5th. However now that all the Songs  have been revealed, some reviews say she may not have liked how it turned out – Most of the recordings are just the first takes of songs which have been reworked by producer Salaam Remi who added backing tracks and vocals. ‘At best, the tracks sound like the basis for another hit album, although it’s hard to make any kind of judgment on the basis of one listen.

Remi also worked with the singer on her two previous albums Frank and Back to Black and was slated to produce her third. He says he only spent two weeks polishing the material after the singer died on July 23. It is hard to believe that Winehouse herself – who oversaw every aspect of the two albums she released – wouldn’t have reworked much of the material that is to be put out.’There are certainly times when her vocal on a song sounds more like a sketch, even if she was an instinctive artist who appreciated the magic of capturing a first take.’ Among the songs on the album are a Frank Sinatra era opener called Best Friends, an early version of the hit Valerie, a demo of the song Wake Up Alone, a version of the Shirelles’ Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and the Tony Bennett duet Body andSoul.

The new material also highlights that musically and creatively, Amy was the tops. She was a great musician and a great songwriter as well and saw music as an escape from all the other stuff that was going on in her life. A label executive has also said there was a trove of live material which could also be released in the future. Here are some of the songs on the new album.

Happy birthday Anthony Kiedis

The lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis, celebrates his birthday today ( 1st November). So to mark the occasion here are some awesome tunes courtesy of YouTube. Having Beeen a big fan of RHCP ever since they did “Mothers Milk” I could have posted loads more tunes too. I think the latest album “I’m With You” is fantastic, although so are “Blood Sugar Sex Magic”, “One Hot Minute”  “By the Way”, “Californication”  and “Stadium Arcadium”.
