From 11th February until 19th February 2012 Visitors to the National Railway Museum in York can See the steam star from the Harry Potter films GWR 5972 Olton Hall A.K.A Hogwarts Castle at this years Wizard Week. (So far I’ve seen 4936 Kinlet Hall & 4930 Hagley Hall but still haven’t got round to seeing 5972 Olton Hall yet, it’s next on the list).
Steam rides are also available throughout the week giving people the opportunity to Take a ride behind a steam locomotive. Although it may be worth noting that all Rides may not be hauled by 5972 Olton Hall (Hogwarts Castle) Still I’d enjoy the ride behind whatever was in steam. From 10am – 5pm. Tickets £2.00 per person.
There is also a Miniature railway and visitors can Take a trip on the NRM’s 7¼“ gauge train in the South Yard. The miniature railway runs every day, weather permitting. In addition there are also lots of new spell-binding activities taking place in 2012 which are suitable for wizards of all ages and Include All-action wizard duels – Watch good battle evil in our wizard performances at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Owl displays – See displays of beautiful owls and birds of prey. 10am – 4.30pm. Derek the friendly Dragon – 10 – 11am, 11.30am – 1pm, 1.30 – 3pm and 3.30 – 4.30pm. The Magic Hatter – Watch amazing wizard tricks and balloon modelling. 11am – 3pm in Station Hall and South Yard.
There is also a Best-Dressed Wizard Competition taking place during the event, which gives one lucky person the chance to win a one-to-one magic Class wth The Magic Hatter and an exciting Owl Experience at Falconry UK Limited
You can also see The Science behind Harry Potter on 17 Feb only when visitors have a chance to meet Meet Roger Highfield, the author of ‘The Science of Harry Potter’, to find out how dragons fly and if invisibility cloaks would really work.
