The King of Motown, a R&B Singer songwriter, an Austrian Rock Star and a pioneer of the Mammoth Riff

The Nineteenth of February is a great day for singers who are celebrating Birthdays. All of Which is a great excuse for me to listen to and post loads of fantastic music. Firstly American Motown Legend R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, and former record executive Smokey Robinson was born on this day 19th February in 1940. He is one of the primary figures associated with Motown, second only to the company’s founder, Berry Gordy. Robinson’s consistent commercial success and creative contributions to the label have earned him the title “King of Motown.”

As an original member of Motown Records’ first vocal group The Miracles and as a solo artist, Robinson delivered many U.S. and U.K. Top 40 hits for Motown between 1960 and 1987 including Tracks of my Tears My Girl aswell as Tears of a Clown

Eight years later Black Sabbath guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi was born on this day 19 February in 1948. He best known as the founding member of pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath, who’s hit’s include Paranoid, he is the sole continual member through multiple personnel changes, and is widely recognised as one of the most important and influential guitarists in heavy metal music.

According to Allmusic, “Iommi is one of only two guitarists (the other being Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page) who can take full credit for pioneering the mammoth riffs of heavy metal.” He has also been ranked number one on Guitar World’s “100 Greatest Metal Guitarists of All Time”, and in 2011, ranked 25th in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”. His autobiography was published, entitled Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath. Sadly though On 9 January 2012, it was announced that Iommi had beendiagnosed with early stage lymphoma. ===================================================================================================

The late great Austrian Rock Musician and Rapper Falco was also born on this day 19 February in 1957. He had several international hits: “Der Kommissar“, “Rock Me Amadeus”, “Vienna Calling“,”Jeanny”, “The Sound of Musik”, “Coming Home (Jeanny Part 2)” and posthumously, “Out of the Dark”.

Falco is the first and only artist to date whose principal language was German to score a number-one hit in the United States with “Rock Me Amadeus”. His estate claims he has sold 20 million albums and 15 million singles to date, which makes him the best selling Austrian singer of all time.

The UK R&B singer-songwriter Seal was born (19 February 1963), he has won numerous music awards throughout his career, including three Brit Awards—winning Best British Male in 1992, four Grammy Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award. Seal is known for his numerous international hits; including “Killer” (With Adamski) and “Kiss from a Rose”, which appeared in the soundtrack to the 1995 film Batman Forever (and was the best bit, lol). So far He has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.
