On this day in history

The American movie producer Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli,  was born this day Aril 5th in 1909 sadly though he passed away in. 1996 but not before leaving us with some great films particularly his work on the James Bond Movies.

The same can be said for The American actress Bette Davis was was allso born on this date 5th April in 1908 and she too has left a long lasting legacy in the form of some great films which remain as popular as ever.

Perhaps best known for his role in Dad’s Army, English Actor John Le Mesurier, was born this date Aril 5th in 1912 sadly though he died in 1983 but the series “Dad’s Army is often repeated and remains as popular as ever. English Actor Nigel Hawthorne, was also born on this date April 5th in 1929 as was English actress Jane Asher, who was born on this date in 1946   America Actor Gregory Peck, was also born this day 5th April in 1916 as was Spencer Tracy in 1900, sadly though both gentlemen have passed away, but luckily they have both left a fantastic and long lasting legacy in the form of some wonderful films which also remain popular

Best known as a member of pop group ABBA,Swedish singer Agnetha Fältskog, was born on this date 5th April in 1950 and ABBAs music still remains popular today

Sir Nigel Gresley, the English engineer and LNER Cheif Engineer, who is Perhaps Best known for his work on the LNER A4 Pacific Locomotives,  tragically died this date April 5th in 1941. Luckily though thanks to the hard work and dedication of lots of dedicated enthusiasts and engineers many examples of his work can often still be seen in motion at various steam galas throughout the year. indeed I was able to see LNER 4498/60019 Bittern, which he designed, in the metal, at the recent Severn Valley Railway Spring Steam Gala, and I have also seen the A4 Pacific locomotives “Union of South Africa” and “Sir Nigel Gresley” down there in the past.

American singer Gene Pitney also tragically passed away on this date April 5th in 2006 as didThe Musician, Guitarist & Lead singer of Nirvana Kurt Cobain, in 1994, but neither will be forgotten as they both also left behind a wonderful legacy in the form of some great music.

The Snowman & Headhunters by Jo Nesbo

I am about to start reading The Snowman, the fifth chilling suspenseful and entertaining crime thriller by Jo Nesbo, previous novels being “Redbreast” “Nemesis” “The Devil’s Star”,”The Redeemer” and “The Leopard” which has led the Independant newspaper to refer to him as “The new Stieg Larsson”

The Snowman features A detective named Harry Hole, who is asked to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a young woman, the only clue being her favourite scarf tied round the neck of a nearby snowman. Then another woman suddenly goes missing and he discovers that they are only the latest in an alarming number of women who have recently gone missing in the area and it gradually dawns on him that he may be dealing with a serial killer…

Meanwhile the film version of Headhunters, whch is based on another Slick taut tense spectacular & Entertaining Crime thriller by Jo Nesbo is also currently out in cinemas, and I would like to watch this and read this book too.

Headhunters features a character named Diana Brown who is used to the finer things in life. She lives in a beautiful mansion, has a doting husband named Roger, who lavishes her with expensive gifts, and she is devastatingly attractive. the only thing that could complete her life is a child.

Her husband Roger meanwhile   also appears to have it all. A beautiful wife, a magnificent villa and a job as a high flying executive Headhunter. He is the best in the business and he knows it. However he is not prepared to give Diana a child. This causes friction between the couple, borne out of Roger’s own insecurities over raising a child

However all is not quite what it seems between them as their financial position is far more precarious than Diana realsies and Roger has to indulge his extravagant lifestyle by stealing highly valuable works of art.  Diana, however, is blissfully unaware of that her husband is leading a double life as an accomplished art thief. Predictably Roger eventually starts to feel the financial pressures of keeping up the pretence of having unlimited sums of money, and then an opportunity presents itself which proves irresistible. He discovers his latest candidate, Clas Greve, has one of the world’s most valuable paintings in his possession, presenting Roger with an opportunity to finally put an end to his financial worries.

Greve was once a powerful businessman in his position as the CEO of HOTE, a company that specialises in GPS tracking technology. He has all the attributes of the perfect candidate for Roger Brown’s next job and after discovering that Greve owns one of the world’s most valuable paintings, Roger does everything in his power to get closer to him. Greve, though is always three steps ahead of Roger, and has his own motives in entrapping the hapless Brown and what follows is a dark and relentless game of cat and mouse, as the hunter becomes the hunted…
