one of the golden rules of top tennis players s to keep your balls in your pocket 🙂 Unfortunately for Andy Murray his kept slipping out and it became a problem that was always going to cause some chuckles. The host’s on Radio 4’s Today programme were quick to join in the giggles as they discussed the technical glitch plaguing the Scot in Saturday’s late-night encounter with Marcos Baghdatis whch was blamed n his shorts.

Elsewhere French Open champion and former Wimbledon winner Maria Sharapova made an early exit from championships after being knocked out in fourth round by a straight sets defeat against Sabine Lisicki, with 15th-seeded German Lisicki taking the match 6-4, 6-3

Four-times champion Serena Williams dug deep to book a place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals, seeing off ‘golden-set’ challenger Yaroslava Shvedova 6-1, 2-6, 7-5, and her next match s a quarter-final clash with Petra Kvitova

On Sunday 1st July Andy Murray defeated Marcos Baghdatis 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 and Is currently on No1 Court playing Marin Cilic, So far Murray has played today’s fourth-round opponent Marin Cilic on six occasions, and won five of them, including the last three, and the score s currenty – Murray 7-5, 3-1 Cilic Shd Mrray wn the match his semi-final opponent, will be the fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who is currently a set down, 6-4, against the American Mardy Fish.

Goodwood Festival of speed

The action at the 20th Goodwood Festival of Speed ths year didn’t disappoint.Lewis Hamilton wowed the crowd doing donuts outside Goodwood House, Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel looked like he enjoyed every moment of his run up the Goodwood hillclimb course. This season’s Honda CBR1000RR performed a stand-up wheelie for the crowd, while air displays soared over Goodwood on what was a mostly dry and bright day. The new Aston Martin Vanquish also made an appearance.

Alfa Romeo is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary  and had a couple of the 105-series cars (albeit the more voluptuous and sought after Bertone-designed coupes) were on hand incudng a historic Alfa Romeo Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV coupe. whch shot up the hillclimb.

There was also a Lotus celebration display, and as part of the display, Last year’s Lotus-Renault R30 Formula One contender raced up the Goodwood hillcilmb with Nicolas Prost, son of Alain Prost, at the wheel, Jackie Oliver drove a 1967 Lotus-Cosworth 49,A Lotus-Cosworth 77 in JPS livery, whch won at Fuji in 1976 n the hands f Mario Andretti, also raced u the Hillclimb, Bernardo Sousa raced an Exige R-GT, Doc Bundy raced the very same Lotus Esprit Turbo  n whch he won the 1992 Bridgestone Supercar Championship. There was also a Lotus Elan 26R from 1965, a race prepared Lotus 47 Europa whch was purpose-built for Group 4, A Lotus-Cosworth 72 driven  by Emerson Fittipaldi, a Ford-Lotus Cortina MkI, An ex-Nigel Mansell Lotus-Cosworth 92 and the Lotus-Cosworth Type 125 which although it looks like a Formula One car  is actually designed for trackday customers, and looks like great fun to drive.

Nick Mason’s glorious Ferrari 250 GTO made an appearance, Formula One driver Mark Webber drve the Infiniti Emerg-E electric concept car, The winner of this year’s Le Mans 24 Hour race, Audi’s R18 e-tron Quattro, also raced up the hillclimb as did a Ferrari 250 GT SWB/C which was driven to victory in the 1961 Paris 1,000km by the brothers Pedro and Ricardo Rodríguez Richard Charlesworth. There wasalso the fearsome supercharged ‘Blower’ Bentley  4.5-litre whch was driven by Tim Birkin at Le Mans in 1930.

The Forest Rally Stage at the Goodwood Festival of Speed was also open and ths was an event in itself. Goodwood does not do anything by halves,  and you were treated to a mouth-watering selection of machinery from rallying past and present, from Metro 6R4s and Lancia Delta Integrales and 037’s to this year’s Citroën DS3 WRC and Skoda Fabia S2000.
