After achieving moderate local success with the 1983 experimental hip hop 12″ Cooky Puss, the group transitioned to hip hop in 1984 and released a string of successful 12″ singles, The Beastie Boys toured with Madonna in 1985, and a year later released a debut album Licensed to Ill,The groups sound was influenced by the incendiary blend of politics, art, and music from bands like The Clash, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Jimi Hendrix and Licensed to Ill was a wonderful Fusion of Hip-Hop, Rock Music and 70’s Disco Music which went on to win massive international critical acclaim and become a major commercial success and contained great songs like Fight For Your Right to Party, She’s Crafty and No Sleep till Brooklyn.Beastie Boys second album “Paul’s Boutique” was also great and had more excellent tunes on it like Hey Ladies, Looking down the Barrel of A Gun, and Body Movin’. It was followed by more successful albums including , Ill Communication, Hello Nasty, To the Five Boroughs, The Mix Up and The Hot Sauce Committee (Part 2).By 2010, the group had sold 22 million albums in the United States and 40 million albums worldwide, making them, according to Billboard, “the biggest-selling rap group” since 1991.
The Beastie Boys were one of the longest-lived hip hop acts worldwide and they continued to enjoy commercial and critical success more than 25 years after Licensed to Ill. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14, 2012, “just the third rap group to enter the Hall, after Run-D.M.C. (2009) and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (2007).” In 2009, the group released digitally remastered deluxe editions of their albums Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication and Hello Nasty. Their eighth studio album, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, was released on May 3, 2011, and received positive reviews
