The Severn Valley Railway is currently borrowing class 37 Diesel no.37109 from the East Lancashire Railway, and it could be staying until the Diesel Gala on October 3-5th 2013. In addition Volunteers at The Severn Valley Railway have also recently won The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2013.
The Severn Valley Railway’s popular 1940’s weekend also takes place on the weekends of June 29th – 30th and July 6th – 7th 2013. This years event will feature a themed 1940’s show by Stundents of Shrewsbury College, An exciting battle re-enactment at Highley Station, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flypast (THat was spectacular seeing the Avro Lancaster fly past at low level last year), Ahistoric vehicle display of tanks, 40s military vehicles and cars, a full sized Spitfire replica, a land army camp and a conscieintious objectors display. There will also be people in period costume and wearing army uniforms of various nationalities.
On June 29th there will be a VE Day Celebration Show at 7.30pm, and onJuly 6th there is a show entitled A Salute to the 1940’s and there will also be entertainment throughout the event which will be provided by The Three Belles, Andrews Sisters Tribute Group, The Beven Boys, threepeice band, Dicky Lines, Lola Lamour and Peter Wayre.
