would like to read Watcher in the Shadows, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, which was Originally published in Spain in 1995 as Las luces de septiembre, the third book in The Mist Trilogy series. This well-crafted spooky tale is full of unique characters and starts in Paris, France in 1937. After The Sauvelle family suffers a pre-war tragedy when the debts of their recently deceased patriarch force them to abandon their comfortable Parisian lifestyle and Madame Simone Sauvelle, her young son Dorian and teenage daughter Irene end up moving to the a modest house on the Normandy Coast after Simone, takes a job as the housekeeper for a reclusive and mysterious toymaker and engineer, named Lazarus Jann.
Jann has surrounded himself with thousands of mechanical beings which he has created, at his old mansion on the massive estate of Cravenmoore and At first Her young son, Dorian, finds pleasure in cartography and the magic of Jann’s thousands of automatons that wander the grounds and populate his castle. Meanwhile Irene’s pleasure is derived from spending time with Hannah, a girl her age who works for Jann as a cook, and Ismael, Hannah’s handsome older cousin. Ismael is as weathered and world-weary as a sixteen-year-old orphaned fisherman can be, but his clever mind and shy charm endear Irene and Ismael to each other.
