Valerian and the City of a thousand Planets

The exciting and glossy French science fiction action-adventure space opera Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Has been released on DVD. It is written and directed by Luc Besson and co-produced by Besson and his wife, Virginie Besson-Silla. The film is based on the French science fiction comics series Valérian and Laureline, written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mézières. It stars Dane DeHaan as Valerian and Cara Delevingne as Laureline, with Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, Kris Wu, and Rutger Hauer in supporting roles. I would also like to read the original Science fiction story as many fans say it is superior to the film, which surprisingly did not perform as well as many had expected at the box office. So far I have downloaded the first issue of Valerian and Laureline “The City of Shifting Waters” free on Kindle and would like to read further issues. There is also a book of stunning science-fiction Concept Art for the film, which I would like to read as I am heavily into the Science-fiction/fantasy art of Roger Dean, H.R.Giger, Roger Whelan and many othets

It takes place in the 28th century, on the space station Alpha where millions of creatures from different planets live peacefully and exchange their knowledge and cultures. Alpha began as a space station around Earth and grew as more alien species colonised it. Valerian and Laureline are special agents living on Space Station Alpha. During a dream, Valerian sees a planet where a low-tech humanoid race lives peacefully in a tropical paradise FIshing for energy-containing pearls and using certain animals to duplicate them. However thier peaceful existence is violently cut short

Valerian and Laureline are sent on a mission to retrieve one of the rare animals from his dream, called a “converter”, from a black market dealer. He and Laureline obtain the converter and return to Alpha, where they are told by Commander Filitt that part of the station has been infected by an unknown force, rendering it highly toxic, and that the troops that were sent into the area have not returned, and that the infection is spreading.

so Laureline and Valerian are assigned to protect the commander. Sadly they are ambushed by  humanoid aliens who kidnap the Commander. Luckily Valerian frees himself and the others and pursues the kidnappers, who head for the infected area however this does not go well, Later Laureline goes searching for Valerian and finds him unconscious at the edge of the infected area. Then she herself is kidnapped by a group of primitive humanoids, however Valerian and a Shapeshifter named Bubble manage to rescue Laureline and escape. As Valerian and Laureline venture further into the infected area, they also discover where Commander Filitt is being held.

The leader of the humanoids explains to Valerian that his people were living peacefully on the planet Mül when two technologically advanced races, one of them human, started fighting, then a doomsday weapon was fired during the conflict, this successfully destroyed the enemy, unfortunately it also destroyed Mül. Luckily A small group of survivors sheltered in a crashed spaceship and managed to repair it, learning much about technology and the history of other races. They Journeyed to Alpha where they constructed a spaceship that could recreate a planet like Mül. However they still need a Converter and a Pearl in order to launch the ship. Valerian and Laureline then learn of Filitt’s dubious activities during the destruction of Mül, however they are rudely interupted when Filitt’s robot soldiers attack and all hell breaks loose…

War for the Planet of the Apes

The science fiction film War for the Planet of the Apes is out on DVD today. It is directed by Matt Reeves and written by Mark Bomback and Reeves. It is A sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and is the third installment in the Planet of the Apes reboot series. The film stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson and Steve Zahn, and follows a confrontation between the apes, led by Caesar, and the humans for control of Earth following the outbreak of a deadly virus.

It is set two years after the U.S. military fought off an attack by a vengeful, human-hating bonobo named Koba and his tribe of increasingly intelligent and dangerous apes, who staged a coup against Caesar, the leader of the apes, and waged war against the human survivors in San Francisco. The apes’ clan, led by the chimpanzee Caesar, now find themselves under attack from a rogue paramilitary faction known as Alpha-Omega, led by a mysterious Colonel (Woody Harrelson). The human soldiers are met by heavy ape resistance and some are captured by the apes. Caesar arrives and releases the human soldiers, telling them to deliver a message to the Colonel – that he killed Koba for starting the war and that he desires peace between the humans and apes. Meanwhile Caesar’s son, Blue Eyes, and his lieutenant Rocket search for a safe haven for the apes. That night, a group of Alpha-Omega soldiers, led by the Colonel, infiltrates the apes’ home behind a waterfall and The Colonel kills Ceasars wife Cornelia. Then the ape “Winter” disappears and is suspected of treachery.

So Caesar departs with the apes Maurice, Luca and Rocket to exact revenge on the Colonel for the deaths of his wife and oldest son. Meanwhile The other apes head for the desert and come across an abandoned village, where they encounter a soldier, and kill him. Caesar, Maurice, Luca, and Rocket discover a mute girl who the soldier was looking after. Caesar’s party eventually sneak inside an Alpha-Omega camp on a beach and encounter Winter, He tells Caesar’s group that the Colonel has departed for a location called the “border”, so they follow the soldiers to the border and encounter Bad Ape, a reclusive chimpanzee hermit who lived in the Sierra Zoo before the Simian Flu pandemic who reveals the location of the human soldiers.

When the group arrives at the border, they see hundreds of apes held captive inside a former quarantine facility. While Luca and Caesar encounter an Alpha Omega Patrol and Caesar learns that the captured apes belong to his clan, and are being forced to build a wall with no food or water. Caesar is captured and learns that the Simian Flu virus has mutated and now causes humans who survived the original strain to become mute. the Colonel wants to stop the spread of the virus and explains to Caesar that he is fighting a “holy war” for survival. Maurice, Rocket and the mute girl, Nova, attempt to rescue Caesar, and escape, Confront the Colonel and rescue the other apes,

However they are rudely interrupted when the facillity is suddenly attacked by the Northern Army and there is an epic confrontation between the forces of Alpha-Omega and the northern army and Maurice, Rocket, Red, Preacher, Caesar, and Nova all find themselves caught up in the fighting between Alpha Omega and The Northern Army as they try to escape the carnage.
