Labyrinth

The entertaining Fantasy film Labyrinth was released on June 27th, 1986. It was directed by Jim Henson with George Lucas as executive producer and Based on conceptual designs by Brian Froud. The film was written by Terry Jones, and many of its characters are played by puppets produced by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. It stars David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin king and Jennifer Connolly, as Sarah. It begins with 16-year-old Sarah reading a book titled The Labyrinth. Later that night she babysit her infant half-brother Toby. Frustrated that Toby was given her treasured teddy bear, Lancelot, and by his constant crying, Sarah rashly wishes that Toby be taken away by goblins. Toby disappears and the Goblin King Jareth appears, offering Sarah her dreams in exchange for the baby.  Realising what she has done She refuses, instantly regretting her wish. Jareth reluctantly gives Sarah 13 hours to solve his labyrinth and find Toby before he is turned into a goblin forever. 

In the labyrinth Sarah meets a dwarf named Hoggle who helps her enter the labyrinth. She then meets a talking worm who inadvertently sends her in the wrong direction and Sarah ends up in an oubliette where she reunites with Hoggle and The two are confronted by Jareth. However they manage to escape and Sarah encounters a large beast named Ludo being taunted by guards. Hoggle flees in a cowardly fashion, while Sarah befriends Ludo after freeing him from a trap but loses him in a forest. 

Hoggle encounters Jareth, again who instructs him to hinder Sarah’s progress. Meanwhile Sarah is harassed by a group of creatures called The Fire Gang, but Hoggle comes to her aid however they fall through a trapdoor and end up in a swamp called the “Bog of Eternal Stench” where they reunite with Ludo. 

The trio then meet the guard of the swamp, Sir Didymus and his Old English Sheepdog “steed” Ambrosius. Ludo saves Sarah from falling into the bog, and Didymus joins the group.  Unfortunately Sarah falls into a trance and forgets her quest and starts dreaming about meeting Jareth at a masquerade ball, who proclaims his love for her, but she rebuffs him and escapes, She then falls into a junkyard outside the Goblin City near Jareth’s castle where she encounters An old Junk Lady who tries to distract her. luckly she is rescued by Ludo and Sir Didymus. They are then confronted by the humongous robotic gate guard, but Hoggle comes to their rescue. So Jareth then sends his goblin army to stop Sarah entering the castle and retrieving Toby…
