Lumpy Rug Day was launched 3 May 1975 by librarian, linguist and former U.S. Patent Office Science Library worker, Robert Louis Birch. The purpose of Lumpy Rug Day is to expose all the inconvenient truths being swept under the rug by bigots and trigots (his word for people even worse than bigots)
National Textiles Day
National Textiles Day was founded 3 May 2016 by Valley Forge Fabrics. The word textile refers to a flexible material consisting of a network of natural or artificial fibers (yarn or thread). Yarn is produced by spinning raw fibres of wool, flax, cotton, hemp, or other materials to produce long strands. Textiles are formed by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting or tatting, felting, or braiding.
The related words “fabric” and “cloth” and “material” are often used in textile assembly trades (such as tailoring and dressmaking) as synonyms for textile. However, there are subtle differences in these terms in specialized usage. A textile is any material made of interlacing fibres, including carpeting and geotextiles. A fabric is a material made through weaving, knitting, spreading, crocheting, or bonding that may be used in production of further goods (garments, etc.). Cloth may be used synonymously with fabric but is often a piece of fabric that has been processed.
The purpose of National Textiles day is to recognize the important contribution which textiles make and to acknowledge all that textiles do to improve our lives. Whether woven from natural or synthetic fibers, textiles are the stuff from which our clothes, bedding, furniture covers, rugs, curtains, and canvas for art and sailing is made.
All Things considered Day
All Things Considered Day Commemorates the first broadcast of National Public Radio’s flagship program, All Things Considered on 3 May 1971. It is broadcast live on NPR affiliated stations in the United States, and worldwide through several different outlets, formerly including the NPR Berlin station in Germany. All Things Considered and Morning Edition were the highest rated public radio programs in the United States in 2002 and 2005. The show combines news, analysis, commentary, interviews, and special features, and its segments vary in length and style. ATC airs weekdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (live) or Pacific Standard Time (recorded with some updates; in Hawaii it airs as a fully recorded program) or from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. A weekend version of ATC, Weekend All Things Considered, airs on Saturdays and Sundays.
Prevent Teen & Unplanned Pregnancy Day
Prevent Teen & Unplanned Pregnancy Day commemorates the founding of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy on 3 May 1996. The purpose of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is educate teenagers and to combat the nation’s incredibly high rates of teen pregnancy in the United States. The organisation have since expanded their campaign to include all unplanned pregnancies.

Two Different Colored Shoes Day takes place annually on 3 May. It was launched on 3 May2009 by Dr. Arlene Kaiser as a day during which people are encouraged to abandon their normal routines and be adventurous and try something new, exciting and different.
