Severn Valley Railway Charity Race in aid of Children in Need

Battle of Britain class No.34053 Sir Keith Park

On Friday 26th October TWO of Worcestershire’s most iconic names – Severn Valley Railway and Morgan Motor Company – will go head to head in a thrilling time trial, to raise money for charity, which will see a steam train take on a Morgan 3-Wheeler over 16 miles from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster.

Starting at 12 noon, the Southern Railways 4-6-2 No.34053 “Sir Keith Park” will start from and return to Bridgnorth, and on the footplate will be Sky Sports presenter Vicky Gomersall. The steam loco will also be pulling a set of eight carriages, weighing 240 tons, which will be carrying customers and a Children in Need coach with children from Edward’s Trust in Birmingham, and Pudsey Bear. Passengers can also travel on this special train which will travel non-stop to Kidderminster from  Bridgnorth. Meanwhile Coronation Street actor Tony Hirst, who plays fireman Paul Kershaw, will be hitting the road in the Morgan Three Wheeler. Both will have intensive training in their respective vehicles before the big day. All profit from the sponsored event will go to the BBC Children in Need appeal.

Each driver will also have to collect traditional railway tokens along the route which will involve the Morgan team jumping out at Highley and Arley stations and running over a bridge.” The winner, who will receive a special trophy, will be the first person to hand their tokens to the station master under the station clock at Kidderminster. The day before there is also a charity screening of the latest James Bond film, Skyfall, at the Odeon Cinema, Worcester on Thursday, 25th October.
